I question whether defunding Planned Parenthood is the best way to forward a pro-life agenda. It is unclear if by “defund” anti-abortion advocates mean to eliminate all government funding for Planned Parenthood. If so, how might that affect women seeking Planned Parenthood’s other services?
Many view conception as the earliest stage of human development. Given that, one could argue that abortion is ending a life. However, pregnancy is a unique, complex phenomenon that involves a woman relinquishing her body. It also comes with significant emotional, psychological, and financial costs.

I suspect that an effective strategy for pro-life advocates to reduce abortions would include understanding women’s anxieties about motherhood, providing social support, and offering financial resources. In short, finding ways to serve the needs of expecting mothers. While I hope more women choose to take their pregnancies to term, I could not imagine directly or indirectly forcing them to do so against their will, especially in today’s world.
